happy happy friday night :::
By warriorgrrl | February 22, 2008
I’m at my parents’ house, resting up and eating well. My lovely Mum took me shopping for vegan supplies this afternoon
Did you know Mr Kipling’s apple pies have milk in them, but the blackcurrant ones don’t? Totally weird.
Earlier on I was looking through this really cool folder of stuff my parents kept from when I was born til I was about 15. Class photos, wobbly drawings and school reports. My favourite quote comes from Heathfield JMI School, June 1990:
“Laura has had a very good year at school. All her work is a pleasure to mark. Displays great maturity in all but the practical and physical aspects of her work.”
Brilliant. My second favourite item is a photo of me with a giraffe, which I will definitely scan before I go home. And a close third is the section for each year where Mum wrote what I wanted to be when I grew up:
Year 2: nurse
Year 3: actress
Year 4: actress
Year 5: blank, sadly
Year 6: actress
Year 7: horse journalist!
Year 8: journalist / photographer / dancer / actress
How very girly! I love that by Year 8 I knew it was safer to diversify…clearly a born freelancer.
While I’m here I’ve got some recommendations for you, online and offline bits and bobs from lovely talented people I know online and / or offline (we’re very web 3.0 around here, don’t you know).
Popular Workshop: The Blog. Finally! And just in time to catch them recording their debut album in Chicago with a certain Mister Steve Albini.
Not Everybody Gets A Happy Ending - Die So Fluid - pre-order here and see their website here (awesome gig last night by the way, lovely people!)
Petite Anglaise - Catherine Sanderson - order here and also see Petite Anglaise: The Blog ici. Et voila
The Painted Side Of The Rocket - Fosca - order here and also see Dickon Edwards’ blog for your daily fix of poetic, dandyfied musings.
