I saw Beirut play at The Roundhouse last night. I got a preview version of ‘A Flying Club Cup’ recently and have since discovered ‘Gulag Orkestar’ and ‘Lon Gisland’ - mysterious and evocative songs full of trilling trumpets and wheezy accordion with Zachary Condon’s syrupy vocals spreading over the top. Seeing him and the band last night was like joining a cult, it was really special.
